The uncertainty that accompanies memory loss affects everyone
During these trying times, questions are only natural. Is it safe to continue living at home? Who can we turn to for professional support? Should we consider assisted living? As these questions build up, our Knute Nelson family is here with answers you can trust.
That's what Julie Urke discovered when her father's neurocognitive disorder began to progress. She could have never expected how Knute Nelson would change her life as well. What started as initial resistance from her father quickly transformed into an aura of appreciation. “At first, he didn’t want to move. When he finally got here, he loved it and fit right in.”
More Meaningful Moments for Families
For countless families, the day-to-day rigors of caring for a loved one with memory loss or dementia can quickly become overwhelming. All the while, caregivers oftentimes feel uneasy about their loved one’s safety and unsure if they’re receiving the right level of care.
After realizing that it was no longer safe for her father to live alone at home, Julie made the joint decision with her brother to tour Grand Arbor. While her father was impressed by the community, his first few days as a resident far exceeded all expectations. “The staff and residents were so amazing. They just welcomed him in and got him involved in the different activities. He quickly made friends.”
While their father received the physical, emotional, and spiritual support he needed, Julie and her siblings greatly improved their quality of life while finally getting to truly enjoy the time they spent with their father.
An Eclectic Blend of Amenities
As Julie learned more about what Knute Nelson’s memory care community had to offer, she was taken aback by the amenities. From state-of-the-art facilities to weekly activities like sing-a-longs, there’s always something happening in and around our community.
In the words of Julie, “All the different amenities that this place offers… I've never seen anything quite like it! You've got the wellness center, restaurants, activities, outside entertainment… It's going to be wonderful.”
Coupled with a compassionate and highly trained staff, these amenities helped our Knute Nelson family earn recognition as the Silver Winner of Minnesota’s Best Memory Care in the 2022 Star Tribune Readers’ Choice Awards.
The Connectedness of Our Community
Along with the friendships she made among other residents’ families, Julie gained a deep appreciation for the Knute Nelson experience as a whole. Shortly after, she was inspired to become an independent senior living resident herself.
Now, she is just a short walk away from her father. All the while, her children are enjoying the comfort that comes from quality care. “I’m excited that my dad is just down the hall, and my children are at peace knowing that I'm going to be cared for as I age.”
