Delivering Veteran-centric care as a level 4 We Honor Veterans partner
Oftentimes, Veterans have unique experiences that require special attention and care. It is important to us that our nation’s heroes get the care and recognition they deserve, while being treated with dignity and respect. That’s why Knute Nelson Hospice is committed to providing specialty Veteran care.
We Honor Veterans Level 4 Provider
Knute Nelson Hospice is proud to announce it is now a Level 4 Partner with We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). The progression to this new level demonstrates a high level of commitment to specialty Veteran care.
As a We Honor Veterans partner, Knute Nelson Hospice provides specialized care to Veterans who are facing a serious illness. This includes a Veteran-to-Veteran volunteer program, training on conflict-specific medical and mental health concerns, and knowledge to assist Veterans in navigating VA benefits.
As a level 4 partner, Knute Nelson’s promise to Veterans is to:
-
Provide care with dignity and respect
-
Manage pain and symptoms to make every moment matter
-
Assist with planning and establish goals for care
-
Provide spiritual, emotional, and physical support to all Veterans and their families
-
Provide 24-hour on-call support
NHPCO and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) launched We Honor Veterans in 2010 to address the growing need for Veteran-centered care, especially as Veterans from different eras are aging and need access to Veteran-centric hospice care. Learn more about the We Honor Veterans program.

Veteran-specific training for hospice employees and volunteers
-
Addressing and comforting those who are experiencing PTSD, survivor guilt, or other combat-related symptoms
-
Incorporating patriotic music into therapeutic music sessions
-
Educating patients and family members on VA Benefits
-
Offering Veteran-to-Veteran volunteers
-
Recognition certificates, Veteran’s Day honors, and other Veteran specific recognition
Receiving Specialty Veteran Care
Veterans can receive hospice care wherever they call home, whether that be a private residential home, assisted living community, or other nursing facility.
