An advanced care directive is an important document to create while you are healthy and can think objectively about your care.
Dave’s family was referred to hospice following a hospital stay to help him manage the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of his stage four cancer. What they didn’t expect was the close bonds they’d develop with their care team and the extent of care they’d receive to enable Dave to stay at home with his family.

A free educational seminar, “Advance Care Planning & the Hospice Philosophy” will discuss how to communicate your wishes for end-of-life so that decisions made are based on your personal values and preferences. The community is invited to attend the seminar, which begins at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 19. Vivian Heltemes, RN, with Knute Nelson Hospice, will explore this topic in depth. This free seminar is held at Stevens Community Medical Center, 400 East First Street, Morris.
